Middle School Curriculum
Advance Prep Academy is committed to providing a high-quality, standards-aligned education that meets the needs of all learners. Our research-based curriculum promotes academic excellence, with materials selected for rigor, relevance, and support for both enrichment and remediation. Students also engage in early career exploration, helping them discover interests and future possibilities. Teachers receive ongoing training to implement instruction effectively and support student growth across all areas.
English Language Arts
Students develop critical reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through a focus on narrative, explanatory, and argumentative writing. Analytical thinking is practiced through literature studies, independent reading, group discussions, and targeted comprehension strategies that build readiness for high school-level work.
Mathematics
All students take math each year of middle school. Placement is determined by assessments and teacher recommendations.
In 6th grade, students explore ratios, rates, and percentages, deepen their understanding of rational numbers, work with expressions and equations, and are introduced to basic concepts in statistics and probability.
Science
Students investigate life, earth, and physical science concepts through hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, and inquiry-based learning. Key topics include cells and organisms, heredity, astronomy, energy, and body systems such as the nervous and immune systems.
Social Studies
This course introduces students to world civilizations, covering geography, government systems, cultural practices, and major historical events from ancient Mesopotamia through the Middle Ages. Students develop critical thinking skills by evaluating primary sources and understanding global connections.

Vocabulary and grammar are embedded within reading and writing units to promote effective communication and critical thinking.
Advanced and accelerated tracks are available based on prior academic performance and teacher recommendations.
Mathematics
Math instruction is aligned with Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards and builds conceptual understanding through problem-solving and real-world application.

Science
In this Life Science course, students explore topics such as cells, genetics, microbiology, plant and animal biology, ecosystems, and human anatomy. Learning is supported by interactive labs and inquiry-based projects that promote scientific reasoning and exploration.
Accelerated pathways are available for students demonstrating strong interest and achievement in science.
Social Studies
Part one of a two-year U.S. History sequence, this course examines the early foundations of America through significant historical periods and events. Students gain knowledge in civics, geography, government, and culture through analysis of primary and secondary sources.
Advanced coursework is available to students ready for deeper historical thinking and analysis.
